Day trip or overnight from Sanya
Yalong Bay
亚龙湾
A seven-kilometer crescent of white sand and calm turquoise water framed by rainforest hills east of downtown Sanya.
About 20 kilometers east of downtown Sanya on Hainan Island, Yalong Bay is a seven-kilometer crescent of fine white sand backed by lush mountains and international beachfront resorts. Its calm, clear turquoise water and manicured shoreline set it apart from the busier urban beaches of Sanya Bay and Dadonghai. While five-star hotels line the prime waterfront, the beach itself remains open to the public and looks up toward dense tropical forest ridges.
Two to three days here is plenty to unwind on the sand and explore the surrounding hills. If you are not booking a beachfront resort along Yalongwan Road, basing yourself inland near Bohou Village or Baihuagu Commercial Street gives you easy access to local dining and guesthouses. Easy day trips include Wuzhizhou Island in neighboring Haitang Bay for diving and the Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone to the west of Sanya. Yalong Bay pairs naturally with Haikou via the island's high-speed rail loop, or with direct flights to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Chengdu. It suits families, couples, and anyone craving a polished tropical break, though travelers looking for historic architecture or gritty street-food nightlife may feel underwhelmed.

01Yalong Bay Beach

Baihuagu sits right behind the central resorts with convenient restaurants, supermarkets, and cafes, while nearby Bohou Village transforms after dark into a lively night market serving Hainanese snacks and grilled seafood.

Using public beach access, Getting around with ride-hailing, Dining without seafood surprises +1
Using public beach access
All beaches in China are public, even in front of luxury hotels, though non-guests cannot use hotel sunbeds or pools. If you are staying inland, enter the beach via Yalong Bay Central Square or the public walkways beside major resorts.
Getting around with ride-hailing
Yalong Bay is spread out and walking in the tropical midday heat can be exhausting. Use Didi through Alipay or WeChat rather than hailing street taxis to ensure metered fares between your hotel, the forest park, and dinner spots.
Dining without seafood surprises
When ordering fresh fish or shellfish at restaurants around Yalong Bay or Bohou Village, confirm the unit of weight and total cost before the kitchen cooks your order. Checking recent diner reviews on Dianping helps you stick to reputable spots.
Timing the forest park
Arrive at Yalong Bay Tropical Paradise Forest Park right when it opens in the morning to beat tour-group queues at the suspension bridge and glass walkway, and bring strong sun protection and insect repellent.
How to get to Yalong Bay
Most visitors fly into Sanya Phoenix International Airport, about 35 kilometers west of Yalong Bay, which takes 40 to 50 minutes by taxi or ride-hailing car, or around 90 minutes on public bus routes 8 or 27. Yalong Bay Railway Station (also called Yalongwan Station) sits on the Hainan Eastern Ring High-Speed Railway, about 15 minutes by taxi from the beach strip. High-speed trains connect Yalong Bay Station to downtown Sanya Station in 10 minutes and to Haikou and Haikou Meilan International Airport in roughly 1.5 to 2 hours.
